Montreal Fashion Week -- March 1 - 4

This coming week is Fashion Week in Montreal. A full week of gorgeous creations strutting down the runway at Marche Bonsecours dressed in the latest from local designers like Katrin Leblond. Her clothing, inspired by enchanted beings, are whimsical, wearable and so much fun. I have several pieces from Katrin and they always inspire comments when I wear them. This Wednesday, during Katrin's launch of her Fall 2010 collection, look for my jewellery that will complement some of her lovely designs. All of the pieces of mine you'll see are available for purchase at her store, too.

Why is no one inspired by technology or animals?

The poll results are in!

Of the 30 people who voted, it was a tie between nature and people. No one chose technology or animals. Why do you think that is?

I find this so surprising given the amount of technology our society has created, and how technology permeates practically every facet of our lives. For many of us, we need technology to create -- from the tools we use to make our jewellery to the Internet that allows us to blog about what inspires us.

That no one choose animals was more surprising to me than technology. I think of animal totems and the Chinese zodiac and shamans -- just a few of the ways animals manifest themselves in our lives. Actually, I included animals in my poll because of an SPCA commercial encouraging viewers to donate so that more animals could be protected and saved from abuse. Watching, it occurred to me that many people volunteer or accept low paying jobs because of how animals inspire them to do good works.

So, what are your thoughts on all this?

Knot Nuts

One source of inspiration for me in my jewellery is Celtic myth and culture. I love the intricate knotwork the Celts developed in their designs for jewellery as well as those in the Book of Kells. Using different colours of wire or leather, I've come up with my own interpretation of Celtic knotwork and variations of this knot appear in my earrings, bracelets, brooches and necklaces.

Inspired by Nature Writing Contest

Thinking about Inspiration

It's winter, and up here in Montreal, it's cold. But still people are out there creating up a storm. It makes me curious about where people get their sources of inspiration. So, I created a poll to get some idea. Please participate in the poll at right and, if you're inspired, post something about why that particular thing gets you going and how. What have you created lately as a result of being inspired by people, animals, technology or nature?
